Transport in Madeira
In Madeira we tested all kinds of transportation: rental car, bus, cab, cable car, toboggan… This time we had a non-standard trip, when you just take a car on arrival and roll. Now we didn’t know until the last minute if we were going or not (the kids were sick). So I missed the moment and didn’t book the car in advance. Of course, a week before the expected departure I went to the aggregators and saw that the car, which cost 1 thousand rubles per day has risen to 5 thousand rubles per day. But I know that the car is cheaper, so without hesitation changed my plans and decided to take a car on the spot, leaving the day of arrival and a day to explore Funchal. From the airport you can easily get to Funchal by bus for 5 euros or by cab for 20 euros. When we got out of the terminal, the bus was already waiting and we decided to jump on it. The bus goes down the main street where the main hotels of the tourist cluster are located and we were dropped off right at the gate of our hotelier. Back to the airport we decided to take a cab. At the hotel reception they told us the price was 35 Euros… but I never feel lazy to look on the internet? and I booked an “economy” transfer online for 20 Euros at funchalairporttransfersto.com. On the economy class they have a fresh Mercedes E-class. I wish we had such an economy class in Russia too?! So if they tell you some price, don’t think it’s the final price. We also rented a car locally at an attractive price, not what the aggregator showed. All my guides have a practical info section at the end, where I post recommendations and links to everything, including transportation. On Madeira, too, I’ll post so that the traveler has all the information to plan at his fingertips.
Guys, please put a plus sign under the post those who travel on their own, not just on a hotel package? I am very interested! And are there any of you who were afraid to travel on your own, but now want to try?
